The Position
The City of Carlsbad seeks a dynamic Senior Engineer with strong working knowledge of transportation and traffic engineering principles to join the Traffic and Mobility Division of the Transportation Department of the Public Works Branch. The Senior Engineer is the first management level in the engineering professional series and will supervise the Traffic Engineering Unit and support staff in the implementation of their assigned projects. This position reports to the City Traffic Engineer.
The Senior Engineer will manage and perform professional engineering tasks that include contract administration, design and project management of various transportation and traffic systems, review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and conduct technical studies to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, County, and local standards and regulations.

The Branch: The Public Works Branch is responsible for planning, providing and maintaining infrastructure that supports Carlsbad's excellent quality of life. The Branch includes a variety of Divisions including Administration, Environmental Management, General Services, Utilities and Transportation. More than 173 full time staff support the Branch which has an annual budget of $90 million, along with a total Capital Improvement Program appropriation of $260 million.
The Department: The Transportation Department supports the planning, design, and construction and inspection of the city and private development projects; keeps people and traffic moving; and cares for transportation and drainage infrastructure systems.
The Position: The City of Carlsbad is recruiting for a Senior Engineer that will be the supervisor of the Traffic Engineering Unit and a key member of the Traffic and Mobility Division. This individual will be part of an engineering team which manages a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects and will report directly to the City Traffic Engineer.
The Senior Engineer will oversee professional civil engineering work in the design and construction of streets, sidewalks, traffic control devices and other public capital projects with a focus on traffic and mobility infrastructure. The Senior Engineer will also supervise and coordinate work related to transportation projects and do related work as assigned.
