The City of Lafayette (pop. 24,000) is recruiting for the position of an Associate Engineer. Lafayette prides itself on its vibrant downtown, beautiful tree-studded hillsides and great schools. The position encompasses various professional field and office engineering work related to the management and administration of the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), land development, traffic engineering, and public works infrastructure construction and maintenance projects. The position will require a hands-on approach to project management with the engineer performing their own construction inspection. Since construction inspection is a large component of this position, candidates must be comfortable working outdoors year-round and being adjacent to vehicle traffic, heavy equipment, open trenches and general public works construction activities. The position provides professional staff assistance to other engineers, departments, and the public in areas of expertise. This is a challenging job in a great city! In addition to familiarity with civil engineering principles, procedures, methods, materials and techniques used in public works projects, qualified candidates should have the ability to communicate effectively with the public and contractors. Experience with Microsoft Office programs is required. GIS and CAD software experience is highly desirable. An equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering is required The Associate level position requires five years of professional engineering experience and Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil Engineering.
