As you might suspect, this position performs a variety of transportation engineering work such as preparation of planning studies, alternative analysis, plans, estimates, right of way requirement maps, and reports for freeways, interchanges, roads, ramps, and other transportation projects.

Performs other related work in the planning and design of transportation facilities that may include highways, freeways, interchanges, streets, roads, rail facilities, airports, storm drainage facilities, utility facilities, sanitary facilities, and transportation related structures. May prepare signage, pavement markings and pavement delineation for the project; use and/or direct the use of computer-aided design and drafting systems and other computer-based processes to compile engineering data. Monitor and coordinate tasks and correspond with project team toward completion of projects. Coordinate with clients and project team, and attend meetings unsupervised.

What you will be doing:

  • Design roadway systems and other transportation related structures, including calculations and cost estimating under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer
  • Coordinate layout and drawings with other disciplines
  • Develop appropriate preliminary concepts and layouts
  • Prepare technical specifications
  • Participate in proposal and report writing
  • Reviews and evaluates shop drawings and product submittals
  • And of course, “other duties as assigned”

The Ante

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience performing the essential duties listed above
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and other software
  • Proficiency in the application of the CalTrans Highway Design Manual and support literature
  • Able to interpret geotechnical and hydraulic support data, as related to roadway design
  • Ability to communicate clearly both in verbal and written form with clients and agency staff
  • PE license 

Things we’d like to see

  • Construction and field experience, specification writing, and highway design concepts is preferred
