Job Description
Survey Manager Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage surveying operations
Provide leadership and mentorship to the survey team, fostering collaboration and high performance
Ensure high-quality standards and meet project objectives
Lead survey crews and execute various land survey projects
Assign tasks, coordinate workflow, and ensure adherence to project timelines
Oversee and participate in surveying activities, including measurements, boundary determinations, and construction staking
Operate and maintain advanced surveying equipment for accurate data collection
Conduct research on land records, legal documents, and historical surveys to determine property boundaries and right-of-way
Collaborate with project managers and clients to develop project plans, defining objectives, scope, and resource requirements
Provide guidance on complex boundary and easement issues
Participate in project kickoff meetings, offering technical expertise
Proficient in AutoCAD/Civil3D for construction staking operations calculations
Proficient in Trimble Business Center (TBC) for control calibrations and data transfers
Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and traverse surveys for data accuracy
Review timesheets and billing invoices for accuracy
Survey Party Chief Responsibilities:
Manage field operations for topographic surveys, mapping projects, and construction staking
Create accurate and legible staking cut sheets for contractors and in-house use
Ensure job-site safety for the crew
Coordinate with superintendents, contractors, and clients
Quality Control and Compliance:
Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure accuracy and completeness of survey data
Stay updated on industry standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance
Data Processing and Reporting:
Oversee the transfer of field data to computer systems and collaborate with survey technicians on data processing
Review and approve survey reports, maps, and legal descriptions for accuracy
Act as the primary client contact, providing project updates, addressing concerns, and ensuring client satisfaction
Participate in client meetings, providing technical expertise
Maintain meticulous records of survey activities, field notes, and documentation
Ensure proper archiving and storage of survey data for future reference
Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and repair of surveying equipment
Coordinate safety meetings and ensure adherence to the Safety Manual
Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance surveying capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is a plus
Strong knowledge of land surveying principles and procedures
Minimum of 10 years of experience in land surveying
Proficient in understanding complex drawings and technical reports
Skilled in using AutoCAD, Civil3D, MS Office, and modern digital tools (e.g., Word, Excel, Windows Explorer, public agency portals)
Proficient in operating Trimble controllers, total stations, GPS rovers, and other survey equipment
