The Civil Project engineer plans, designs, and directs engineering projects such as roads, water supply, sanitary sewer, and subdivision/site plans by performing the following duties.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Essential functions:

  • Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project.
  • Visits project site to ascertain existing conditions.
  • Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.
  • Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and design for project.
  • Administers construction contracts and conducts periodic on-site observations of work during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans and specifications.
  • Uses computer equipment and engineering and design software and equipment to develop engineering and design solutions.
  • Accompanies survey crew in field to locate grading markers or to collect data required for plans.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Fluent with Civil 3D

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Professional Engineering license from state licensing agency and may be working towards licensure.

Valid Virginia drivers license.

Physical demands:

The employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Work Environment:

The employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.

The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
