 Position Objective:

 Nelson is seeking a Material Testing and Field Instrumentation Specialist to manage daily operations at the Nelson Discovery Laboratory and Nelson's Evidence Storage Warehouse, maintain and oversee a variety of Nelson's field and laboratory equipment, conduct material testing in the laboratory facility, and assist in field evaluations with a variety of specialized testing procedures and field instrumentation.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct material testing in the laboratory (includes regular work with liquid nitrogen)
  • Catalog and track testing progress on laboratory specimens
  • Produce clear and concise written reports
  • Be flexible and willing to assist in field investigations
  • Conduct field building envelope testing and evaluations
  • Obtain certification as a thermographer
  • Obtain licensure for unmanned aerial drone operation
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the laboratory and warehouse facilities
  • Coordinate intake of collected site evidence
  • Manage collected site evidence inventory
  • Assist in development of new testing procedures
  • Develop and assist in specialized research projects
  • Assist in demonstrations and continuing education classes hosted for clients
  • Maintain fleet vehicles and field instrumentation

Education & Experience:

  • Associate Degree or higher required
  • Good interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills required
  • Desire to learn and grow
  • Preferred skills:
    • Previous laboratory experience
    • Knowledge of roofing materials
    • IIBEC Certification Credentials such as Registered Roof Observer (RRO), Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), or other
    • Engineer In Training Certification (EIT), Professional Engineering License (PE), or Architect
